Mode of action of chlorpyrifos
Chlorpyrifos has a complex and effective chemical composition. As an organophosphate insecticide, chlorpyrifos is able to block the breakdown of acetylcholine by binding to the enzyme acetylcholinesterase (AChE), thereby interfering with nerve signaling in pests. The ensuing nerve overstimulation leads to paralysis, convulsions, and ultimately death. This mechanism of action makes chlorpyrifos very efficient in pest control.
